Cleaning and Sterilising Huger Videoscopes

CLEANING & STERILISING YOUR HUGER VIDEO ENDOSCOPE

IMPORTANT: Please also refer to your manufacturer’s instruction manual supplied with your endoscope for FULL instructions.

Know your endoscope:

Before you start cleaning:

  • Immediately after you have used the endoscope and before you dismantle it from your Huger system:

  • Whilst still connected to the Huger light source, flush through the air/water channel by pressing the blue button repeatedly for about 10 seconds spraying water through the jet at the distal tip to clear any debris.

  • Now remove it from the light source and wipeall bio debris from the body and tubes with a damp tissue.

  • Now inspect the working tube & umbicalfor cuts and grazes, particularly the bending rubber section and its seals… ensure the distal tip is complete. i.e. no glass light fibre tips are cracked or missing.

  • Now leak test the endoscope.Attach the CLEANING CAP 140 – 180 pressure and 40-60 seconds should be long enough to see any pressure drop on the dial. Leave the CLEANING CAP ON!

  • If it fails testing, STOP, wipe/sterilise (do not immerse in fluids) and call us!

  • If you prefer you can now leave the scope pressurised and remove the leak tester pump but NOT THE CLEANING CAP,Remember though, the leak tester itself is not waterproof! Keep it out of the cleaning fluids or it will be unusable in future.

IMPORTANT: Ensure you always release pressure later at the end of completing the scope cleaning process using the pump then remove the CLEANING CAP before you hang up the scope for storage

Our suggested inspection, cleaning and sterilisation procedure: & Disinfection Procedure & Ste

Have ready 2 large shallow trays (such as a ‘Very Useful Box’ Model: 33ASSCOL) Fill one with clean luke warm water and the other with a suitable sterilising solution such as MedDis. (around 7-10cm deep)

Having dry tested the videoscope for leaksand carried out the instructions above, coil the entire scope into the first tray of luke warm water carefully and loosely with the main control section close to you. Look for signs of leakage such as slow regular bubble trails as you use the green rubber aspiration bulb to flush the exterior and interior of the scope to dislodge trapped pockets of air.

If all is OK then you may now add a detergent or cleaner like MediZyme to the water.

Now brush all exterior surfaces of the scope including brushing the Distal Tip to remove any deposits. Pull off the biopsy cap and the RED & BLUE air/water & suction buttons and wash them too.

Then use the long cleaning brush to clean through the suction and biopsy channel a couple of times. Push through; do not pull backwards until the distal tip is reached.

Then attach and use the CHANNEL IRRIGATOR that is supplied plus a syringe to flush the detergent through the air/water & biopsy/suction channels. Leave the closed rubber biopsy cap ON.

Now detach the CHANNEL IRRIGATIOR and biopsy cap, lift and drain the scope and place it into the steriliser solution within the second tray.

Tips: A small soft brush is useful. (After cleaning do not re-attach the buttons or biopsy cap until the scope is used for the next procedure; store in a small mesh bag (not a plastic bag) hanging around the main body during storage. (This ensures drying of the internal tubes)

Make sure the endoscope bending section angulation is STRAIGHT.Pass the brush all the way down the channels gently until it reaches the distal tip or suction port.

If you feel any major obstruction stop, finish processing and call us.

Do not place any instruments in fluids along with endoscopes!

Remember to wash and sterilise the water bottle every time it’s used too.

Now in tray two, the sterilising solution, carry out the same regime as in the previous paragraph. Then remove the CHANNEL IRRIGATOR and biopsy cap again and allow the endoscope to soak for the manufacturers recommended timescale and no longer.

(Tip: keep the steriliser in the tray and place the lid over it for the manufactures recommended “keep fresh” period. A dated label will help you monitor storage time)

Now drain the scope & place it in the third tray(Having cleaned the 1st one and refilled it with clean luke warm water) rinse the endoscope thoroughly using the same regime again as in the two previous washes. When thoroughly flushed, drain and...

Use the CHANNEL IRRIGATORwith the intake out of fluids to flush air through the instrument & air/water/suction channels to remove most traces of fluids still inside the scope. You may also flush all channels with 75% ethanol before you flush the air through.

Now remove the CHANNEL IRRIGATOR and biopsy cap, dry the exterior of the scope with clean paper towels.

Attach the leak testerto the cleaning cap and depressurise the scope.

Now you can remove the cleaning cap.Connect the videoscope to the camera processor unit and check the image to ensure no damage has been done during this cleaning process

Now store the videoscopeas described in our instruction leaflet. Clean all syringes, tubes, trays etc ready for next time. A good place to leave them is in the empty cleaning tray with the lid on.
